Is there a connection fee?
Not if you order a broadband plus package, but there is a connection fee for all of other ADSL packages. See individual packages for details.

Do I need to have a BT line?
Yes, Topletter broadband is only available on BT PSTN lines.

I have a BT line, but I pay for my telephone calls via another telephone company. Can I still sign up for Topletter broadband?
Yes, so long the telephone line itself is provided by BT, you can sign up for Topletter broadband.

Can I pay by Direct Debit?
Yes, although we currently request that you place your order with a credit/debit card. A mandate is then sent out with each welcome letter allowing you to pay all subsequent monthly charges by Direct Debit.

I already have ADSL. Can I move my connection to Topletter?
Yes, we accept inbound migrations. The migration procedure is described here.

What is the contention ratio?
For our Home broadband packages, the contention is 50:1. Our business packages have a 20:1 contention.

What does contention ratio mean?
The contention ratio is the number of users that share each broadband port at your BT exchange. For example 50:1 means that there are up to 50 users per port. Therefore a 20:1 contention service is better than a 50:1.

Do you provide a free modem?
Only with our broadband plus packages. For our other broadband packages you can either purchase your hardware from us during the sign up process or choose to buy from another source.

Will my connection be as fast as that provided by other ISP's?
Yes, our network is powered by the latest Cisco hardware and we are constantly monitoring our bandwidth utilisation so that we can upgrade our network before it becomes congested thus ensuring that our customers enjoy the very best in broadband connectivity.

What about over subscription?
We are constantly monitoring our network and the number of customers connecting to it. This means that we can expand our infrastructure before it becomes congested.

Can I use peer-to-peer (P2P) networking?
Yes, there are no port or download restrictions on Topletter broadband.

Is this service only available at certain times of the day?
No, you can connect to Topletter broadband 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Is there a limit to the amount of data I can download in a day?
No, there are no data transfer limits.

Is there a cancellation fee if I decide to cancel my subscription?
Our plus packages have a cancellation fee which is due if you cancel within the first 12 months. For all of our other broadband packages there is just a 30 day notice period.

I have ISDN can I still sign up with Topletter?
Yes, but we will need to revert your ISDN line back to PSTN before it can be ADSL enabled. Click here to view our ISDN conversion guide.

I am a Topletter customer and would like to manually set my DNS servers. Can you tell me what they are?
Yes, although we recommend that customers obtain our DNS servers automatically some broadband routers fail to register the DNS information we send and it is therefore necessary to manually enter them. The addresses should be set as follows:

Preferred DNS Server: 77.95.114.100
Alternate DNS Server: 77.95.112.1
